In this talk, we consider the Cauchy problem for the α-surface quasi-geostrophic (α-SQG) equations on the plane. We discuss the wellposedness and illposedness of α-SQG equations in Sobolev and Holder spaces. Then, we briefly introduce a recent result for α-SQG equations on the half-plane.
